UTILITY SPOTLIGHT: City Of Bonners Ferry
May 20 2009

The City of Bonners Ferry is located in Northern Idaho, just shy of the Canadian border. Situated on the banks of the picturesque Kootenai River, the rural community is served by the City of Bonners Ferry Electric Department, which manages the power needs of 2,500 commercial, industrial and residential customers.

According to Steve Boorman, city administrator and superintendent of the Electric Department, the utility is putting a focus on its lighting efficiency program this year. In March, Boorman attended a Hands-on Lighting Controls training in Spokane, organized by Northwest Trade Ally Network, which tied in well with this year's spotlight on the utility's commercial lighting program. With the help of the Network and BPA, the City organized a breakfast workshop for electricians, distributors and large power users. The event covered the Network, new lighting technologies, the incentive program and process, and lighting calculator training. "The timing is right for our program," said Boorman. "The incentives make these projects financially feasible for our commercial customers, and they help stimulate new business at a critical time in our economy for our electrical contactors."
