UTILITY SPOTLIGHT: Missoula Electric Cooperative
Jul 13 2009
"Interest in energy efficiency is gathering momentum here," said Lorraine Best, energy efficient administrator, Missoula Electric Cooperative, Inc. "Both our residential and commercial customers have been asking for information about steps they can take to make homes and businesses more efficient."
Missoula Electric Cooperative serves more than 11,000 members living and working in a rural six-county area outside of Missoula, Mont., including part of Idaho County, Idaho. In response to customer requests, the cooperative has been working on a commercial lighting
program it hopes to launch by mid-July. While the program is getting organized, the cooperative is learning more about incentives and energy-efficient lighting solutions on its first custom lighting project underway at the new Frenchtown High School. The cooperative plans to
reach out to the region's electrical contractors and larger end-users through its Web site, Rural Montana magazine and
face-to-face meetings and trainings. This is just one more example of the expanding economic opportunity for trade allies interested in public power lighting efficiency programs.
