UTILITY PROFILE: Franklin PUD
Sep 14 2009
Franklin PUD has already seen 31 lighting projects get underway this year, the largest number they’ve ever had. “We’re seeing more companies interested in conservation,” said Vic Hubbard, an energy services specialist with Franklin PUD. “Power here is relatively inexpensive so savings are not as great as elsewhere in the region, but our customers are very interested in ways they can use resources more efficiently.”
Two recent projects include a nearly-completed lighting retrofit at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center in Connell, Wash., and an upgrade at two Americold distribution facilities in eastern Wash. Americold’s lighting improvements resulted in better light quality and reduced wattage use for an estimated annual savings of 291,954 kWh for both facilities. “The lighting calculator is a great sales tool,” observed Hubbard. “It not only tells you how much you are saving but it tells you how much more electricity you'll use every year if you don’t implement the upgrades.”
