UTILITY SPOTLIGHT: Seattle City Light
Mar 23 2009
Change is underway for Seattle City Light's commercial and industrial lighting program, thanks to feedback from trade allies. According to Greg Whiting, manager of Conservation Services, the utility is relaunching its commercial and industrial lighting program to make it more trade ally centered. "We're making it easier for contractors and end-use customers to understand the lighting opportunities and the advantages of each," he explained.
The most important change will be seen in the simplified lighting rebate calculation spreadsheet. Improvements include: reworking it to avoid re-entry of data; enabling customers and contractors to choose fixtures from drop-down menus; and making a lighting-only version available. More than 30 trade allies have signed up for the new Lighting Trade Ally Network. Interested contractors can sign up on line and receive more information on training sessions, the rebate program and use of the calculator. Trade allies who complete the training and three successful projects, will become Emerald Trade Allies. These contractors will be listed on a searchable database on the Seattle City Light Web site to help customers find experienced contractors. "This program is good for the trade allies and good for us," says Whiting. "It encourages people to use contractors we know have had success working with our programs."
